Traditional steam sauna or infrared sauna?

Unlike traditional saunas which use wood stoves or heaters to heat the air to intolerable temperatures (sometimes around 85°C), far infrared saunas use the same type of heat as the sun without the ultraviolet rays that we know to be harmful.

Instead of heating the air, infrared saunas use radiant heat to penetrate the body directly. This radiant heat penetrates 1.5 inches deeper into the skin reaching joints, muscles and soft tissue. This is deeper than traditional saunas and at a far lower temperature. Its lower temperatures allow for longer sessions that are more enjoyable and manageable.

Infrared saunas leave you feeling invigorated, not depleted like traditional saunas. In the far infrared sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna.

How to prepare for your sauna

Please be sure to arrive well hydrated. Each persons heat tolerance is different, so being well hydrated will ensure a more enjoyable session. You will release a large amount of sweat throughout, so it is essential you have sufficient fluids.

Please be mindful of the weather outdoors and dress appropriately, however, since it is a common area we recommend you wear whatever you are comfortable in, such as swim wear or underwear.

Since you will continue to perspire for a few minutes after your session be mindful of what you will put on post-sauna.

We have change rooms and showers in the clinic for you to use before and after your session.

Appointment details

The appointment is 50 minutes long, including shower time.

Please be mindful of the time as we do run on schedule and often have appointments back to back. If you are running late, unfortunately that time can not be made up.

It is recommended to stay in the sauna 30-45 minutes (not at a high temperature the entire time) as it will provide the most benefit. You can always step out of the sauna for a breather if you are feeling overwhelmed and need a break, and can re-enter again once you are ready. As your appointment if 50 minutes long be mindful to utilise your time tailored to you.

If you are pairing your sauna with a colonic, it doesn’t matter which goes first. It typically depends on your schedule and availability.

What to bring

  • Water bottle
    We recommend a thermos bottle, as glass and plastic bottles will heat up quickly in the sauna. Purified water available for you to refill your bottle throughout your session if need be.
  • A towel or two
    Please note we do not have towels available for use. You may want to bring a towel to sit on whilst in the sauna and a fresh one for after your shower.
  • Whatever helps you relax (this is your time).
    Reading material such as books and magazines are recommended since phones, iPad’s and laptops will heat up very quickly in the sauna. They wont break, however, they may stop working until they have cooled down. Each sauna has Bluetooth which you are welcome to connect your device providing you with music or a podcast of your choosing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many might I need?

Using the sauna at least 1-3 times a week can yield incredible, lasting results but individual preferences and results vary. Some people use the sauna sporadically or when they have a colonic – it is completely up to you.

Should I have my sauna before or after my colonic?

It does not matter but it typically depends on your schedule. Most people choose to have a sauna afterwards and then will shower but the results are no different if you prefer to have your sauna beforehand.

Can everyone use the sauna?

Unfortunately, there are certain people who can not use the sauna. If you are pregnant, under the age of 10, very elderly or feeling nauseous and feverish, it is advised not to use the sauna. If you have a particular medical condition please seek your Doctor’s approval before using our Full Spectrum Sauna.
